Ever since the summer of 2011, Motorola has launched a handful of smartphones, but they’ve yet to meet up to the potential of the Android market. Despite the previous mobile releases, the Moto X brings about the company’s first effort under the Google banner and is touted as the first smartphone made in the US. The arrival of the phone saw months of leaks, speculations, rumors and even a public tease or two. The cat is finally out of the bag as the company made an official unveiling of the smartphone device at a media event in New York.

Motorola’s new forerunner Moto X is striking for a number of reasons. The smartphone has the ability to discover whether the device is in your pocket rather than, say, in the cup holder of a car going 60 miles per hour on the freeway. The users are provided with the option of asking it to do things with your voice, without having to press any keys. And you need not wake it up to look at the time or to see if you have any new messages.

With the Moto X, the company offers its consumers an alternative to a simple, black rectangular device. A consumer will be able to choose from more than 2,000 color combinations, textures and other designs, ranging from bright teal to woodgrain.

Those fed up of using a phone that can’t last the day without charging it will probably find the screen exchange worth the purchase: Motorola said that the Moto X’s battery will continue working for a whole day, and not just an 8-hour work day, but a complete 24 hour one. If this is true, the handset will set a benchmark for the other Smartphone devices in the market. The availability of the Moto X will be available in the U.S. from all the major networks around the end of August or early September starting at $199.99 for a 16-GB version with a two-year contract and $249.99 for a 32 GB model. Google is also adding in 50 GB of online storage free through the Google Drive.

By providing the consumers the opportunity to make a personal statement with their devices can give Motorola the edge in an increasingly competitive smartphone market. This proves that Google and Motorola are betting bigger on the Moto X and intend to make it stand out from the rest.
