Microsoft ‘Surface’ with Touch Keyboard and Many More Astounding Features

Known for its surprises and most user friendly software, the software giant Microsoft just achieved another milestone by unveiling their first tablet computer what they named ‘Surface’ on June 18th 2012. Launched against very much popular Apple’s iPad, Surface comes with a detachable rubbered keyboard that also serves like a book cover. On Monday, June 18 CEO of Microsoft Technology Steve Ballmer said that this new ultramodern gadget is unique in its own way as it would do much better than general computers.

A 9.3 mm thick wonder device would work on the Windows RT OS which is specially made for tablets running on low-power chips. Surface will come with a kickstand that holds the computer upright and a touch keyboard cover that uses magnets to snap on.

The tablet works with a keyboard cover that’s just 3 mm thick and appears very much like lightweight ‘Smart Cover’ of Apple. The kickstand for the tablet is just 0.7 mm thick, less thick than a plastic money card.

The device will weigh 1.5 pounds and is likely to cost about same as other tablet computers ($499 to $829) based on the models. The size is 9.4 mm, quite similar to latest iPad. Experts in the industry keep their hopes pretty up with this latest bonanza against the new iPad because of the Microsoft software support Windows. “They are saying it’s a different world now and are trying to put the sexy back into the Microsoft brand”, said Gartner Inc. analyst Carolina Milanesi.

Supporting the stand for this ultra-device, Steven Sinofsky, president of Microsoft’s Windows division, called the device a “tablet that’s a great PC -a PC that’s a great tablet.”

The touch keyboard powered Surface computer tablet is probably linked with the release of much awaited Windows 8 OS that has been specially designed keeping tablets in focus. Though the official launch of Surface and Windows 8 is not yet declared, it’s likely to happen in September or October this year. Nevertheless, Microsoft might limit the Surface impact by limiting initial sales keeping the rights to their own stores and official channels.
